Anthony Rizzo had nothing but crying emojis for David Ross’ farewell locker photo

The final game of David Ross’ career was perfect. In the Cubs Game 7 win, the 39-year-old became the oldest player to hit a home run in the World Series, and the best part was that he wasn’t expecting that to happen at all.

He told reporters afterwards: “It’s just so emotional. I hit a home run in Game 7 and got carried off the field. I mean, that doesn’t happen. It was like ‘Rudy’ going out there.’’

Now that he has celebrated with the Cubs, and made appearances on Saturday Night Live and Ellen, Ross sent his goodbye tweet to MLB on Tuesday. It’s a simple photo, yet it’s so meaningful to so many.

Anthony Rizzo, an emotional guy who gave a tearful speech praising Ross at the Cubs’ championship rally, responded with nothing but crying emojis.

Many fans responded to Ross’ tweet the same way. If you scroll through the mentions, there are lots of words of thanks, appreciation, emoji tears and GIF tears.

MLB replied with a GIF.

I’ll close out this post by just leaving you with a few words Rizzo said in honor of Ross at the Cubs World Series rally:

“He taught myself personally how to become a real winner,” Rizzo started, pausing and then breaking down. “He’s like a brother to me. He taught me a lot in life, how to be a better person. I’m forever grateful for him. … He’s going out as a champion.”
